The Arrival Guide I Send Before Every Albania and Kosovo Trip

Rimas Tours Founder January 2026 6 min

Before each trip, I send guests a simple note with the details that make arrival feel easy. It is not glamorous advice, but it is the kind people remember because it removes friction. Good travel often depends on small decisions made before you leave home.

Know Your Arrival Airport

If you are arriving into Albania, Tirana International Airport is the country's main gateway and the airport itself states that it is located 17 kilometers outside Tirana. That is useful to know because it means some guests can comfortably continue the same day to Berat or the coast, while others should sleep one night near the capital and move the next morning.

For Kosovo-focused journeys, Prishtina International Airport is usually the practical entry point. I recommend thinking about the airport not as a separate booking detail, but as the first design decision in the itinerary.

Dress for Variety, Not for One Photo

This region changes character quickly. In one trip you may be in a Riviera beach club, a UNESCO old town with cobblestones, a mosque courtyard, and a mountain village. The smartest packing is not fashionable overpacking. It is flexible, neat, comfortable clothing that moves well across those settings.

I always recommend good walking shoes, light layers, and one modest extra layer for mosque visits or cooler evenings. Guests who pack only for beach photographs usually end up buying practical items after they arrive.

  • Comfortable shoes for stone streets and old towns
  • A light jacket or wrap, even outside high summer
  • Modest options for mosque and heritage visits
  • Simple resort wear for the coast
  • Less formal clothing than many first-time guests expect

Plan the Transfer Days Properly

One reason our trips feel calm is that we do not underestimate road days. The drive from Tirana toward the Riviera or from Albania into Kosovo is often scenic, but it still needs proper timing, meal planning, and comfort stops. Families enjoy transfer days much more when they are treated as part of the holiday rather than dead time.

This is especially true for children and older travelers. Water, shade, a clean lunch stop, and a realistic departure time matter more than trying to fit too much into the day.

What I Tell Guests Not to Bring

You do not need an overbuilt wardrobe, heavy formal shoes, or too many 'just in case' outfits. Albania and Kosovo respond well to polished simplicity. Travel lighter than you think, and leave room for comfort.

The goal is to arrive ready to enjoy the country, not manage your luggage. The best trips always feel slightly lighter than expected.
